Operation "The Tram Line" with Sgt. Owen Messenger

In our latest project, we had the unique opportunity to follow Sgt. Owen Messenger as they spearheaded an innovative and crucial road safety operation known as "The Tram Line." This operation involves the use of an articulated lorry, strategically employed to catch drivers committing road traffic offences, particularly those using mobile phones while behind the wheel.

The elevated vantage point provided by the lorry allows officers to observe drivers who might otherwise go unnoticed in regular patrol vehicles. Throughout the operation, Sgt. Messenger and their team were able to identify and apprehend numerous offenders, shining a light on the critical issue of distracted driving.

One particularly alarming incident involved a driver operating a heavy goods vehicle who was caught using their mobile phone while driving—an action that is not only illegal but also incredibly dangerous. Shockingly, this individual was found to be four times over the legal alcohol limit, further compounding the risk to themselves and others on the road.

This operation highlights the persistent dangers posed by distracted and impaired driving, and underscores the importance of continued vigilance and enforcement to keep our roads safe. Through this project, we aim to raise awareness and support the tireless efforts of law enforcement in reducing road traffic accidents and saving lives.
